COVID-19

At MDE, we are committed to the health and safety of our families and staff. We promise to remain vigilant with our COVID-19 health and safety efforts until COVID-19 is reasonably determined to no longer be a threat to our daily lives. In compliance with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene requirements, MDE has an intensive COVID-19 Safety Plan that we have summarized for you below. Please know that the City’s COVID situation with new variants is ever changing and therefore so is our policy.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

MDE requires staff to wear a good quality face mask (including cloth face coverings) during all public travel (Ubers, taxis, subway, etc.) and while indoors, in accordance with NYC mandates. We also strongly encourage staff to wear a face mask inside and outside while in public spaces. MDE has made masks available for all staff members who need them.

TRAVEL TO AND FROM FAMILIES’ HOMES

Whenever possible, we match staff with families that are either within walking distance or no more than a 30-40 minute commute from their homes. All staff are instructed to take extra precautions when using the subway, including wearing a mask and gloves at all times, limiting their contact with surfaces within the subway, and maintaining 6 feet distance from others whenever possible.

HYGIENE PROTOCOLS

Upon entry into a family’s home, all staff are required to thoroughly wash their hands with soap and water for no less than 30 seconds. They are also required to maintain this practice at regular intervals throughout their consultation or childcare session. This is our minimum requirement. We also expect families and staff to discuss, at their discretion, additional protocols (such as changing clothes and removing shoes when entering a home) that they require and come to an agreement that all parties are comfortable with.

TESTING AND HEALTH MONITORING

All staff members working with our families are required to get a COVID-19 test every week.

In addition, we ask both our staff and the families we work with to be extra vigilant about monitoring their health status. For our staff, we ask that if they feel any symptoms, to let us know immediately and cancel any upcoming sessions. We also ask our families to keep us informed if they test positive for COVID-19 or find out they have come into contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19. If illness does occur, prior to starting work again, we require that staff provide a negative test result and three consecutive days of appropriate temperature readings.

COMMUNICATION AND PRIVACY

At MDE, we are committed to protecting public health, while still protecting our community’s privacy. We do not require that our families are tested for COVID-19 but do require them to share positive test results with us. We ask for transparency and full disclosure as we navigate this difficult situation. When we are armed with information, we can ensure the health, wellbeing and safety of everyone that we work with.
